Hira Makes A Sound
Co-written by Kim Soun Ty, Ammany Ty, Parmita Gurung, Nia Duong, and Shirley S. Tang
Digital (Procreate), 2022
Hira Makes A Sound follows the journey of Hira Gurung, a fiery and vocal ten-year-old Nepali American. Hira spends most of her home-time with Ratna Bajei (grandma), who is calm and wise. Hira loves learning, especially when Ratna Bajei teaches her about the sounds of the world.
When the 2020 pandemic hits, Hira’s world is turned upside down. Not only must Hira resist a contagious
COVID-19 virus, but she also has to face anti-Asian racism. After a violent confrontation, Ratna Bajei loses her spirit. Now, it is time for Hira to find a way to help guide Ratna Bajei home.
Hira Makes A Sound is available in bilingual Khmer-English, Vietnamese-English, and English-only copies.

The Hallway-Kitchen
Digital (Procreate), 2021
The Hallway-Kitchen is a graphic short story about a young girl’s relationship to her kitchen, a small space that is too see-through to be called a kitchen. In this place with no hiding spot, she must grapple with the unspoken memories of her family’s history and the underlying traumas that permeate from the hallway-kitchen throughout the home. This book is available to purchase as a physical copy in the shop!
Perspective
Digital (Procreate), 2020
Perspective is a mini comic about the realizations that come after leaving a toxic relationship.
Midway to Nowhere
Watercolor on paper, 2016
Midway to Nowhere is a children’s book about home, belonging, and purpose. Birdy is a young child born in the Junkyard, a place where wishes go to sleep. It sits between the old home that Baba longs for but can never return to and Earth, the place where Birdy’s new friends, Felix and May, seem so determined to go. If the Junkyard is midway to nowhere, where is Birdy’s home if this is all she has ever known?
